Description
This type of cargo is now being transported fm pijiguaos mine to interalumina berth by barges ( mississippi type barges).
Operation wl be carried out at midstream with cargo loaded onboard the ocean vsl directly fm barges (starboard-port side)
Vsl has to be self loading equipped with grabs, no grabs available for hiring ashore.
Crewmembers are allowed by port regulations to operate cranes/grabs, however shore crane drivers are available at usd 0,50 x mt all included.
The barge capacity is abt 1.800mt each, it means that 2 convoys of barges coming fm pijiguaos wl be enough to fill up the vsl with abt 36.000 mt bauxite.
Barges dimension are abt 60 m length by 20 m width.
We must to point out that bauxite coming fm pijiguaos has a high index of water content. Specially during rainy season (may-november).
The operation wl be developed at mile 191-195 (interalumina roads), suggest to instruct master to anchor with two anchors to avoid dragging, fyg the current force during high water season (june-oct) is 5-6 knots. (see below a drawing of anchoring zone)
