Description
Located at mile 184 fm orinoco seabuoy (juction with caroni river), this pier is owned and operated by cvg ferrominera orinoco, a steel construction of 1.885 ft long and 50 ft wide. Elevation fm river level of 0.0 ft is of 41 ft. The pier is equipped with one ship loader of 5.000 mt hourly, shiploader is traveling along the pier on rails.
Minimum depth alongside the pier is of 33 ft during dead low water periods, permissible loading draft is controlled by river stage. During high water period draft can reach abt 42 ft fw.
This pier can accommodate vsls up to 950 ft loa and 128 ft beam, during the high water season of june to october this berth is restricted with airdraft, maximum airdraft is of 55 ft fm water level to top of hatch coaming when river stage is of 25 ft above low water mark and 43 ft when river stage is of 38 ft above low water marks.
For loading iron ore the estimated loading rate is about 30.000 mt per day working round the clock.
At this pier, are also loaded the hot briquettes iron exported by opco, who use a soft loader which must be lifted by vessel's cranes to avoid breaking of cargo when in contact with tank top.
Vessel's cranes capacity for lifting the soft loader must be of 25 tons capacity, please see below the drawing of soft loader equipment:
